Lansing, MI — This afternoon, Curtis Hertel released the following statement after joining UAW
Local 602 members on strike at General Motors’ Delta Township Assembly Plant in Lansing:
“I am proud to stand with UAW 602 in Lansing and workers throughout Michigan
joining the picket lines today. The UAW’s strike is a pivotal moment, not only for the
automotive industry but for the labor movement as a whole.
Michigan built the auto industry and is well poised for the auto jobs of tomorrow, but that
only matters when hard-working Michiganders working in those plants can afford to raise
a family, share the success of the industry, and retire with dignity.”
Curtis has a strong record of support for worker’s rights and partnership with the labor
movement. He led the successful legislative fights to expand workers’ rights to bargain for better
pay, and to cut the cost of prescription drugs. Curtis is proud to have received early endorsements
from major Michigan unions, including UAW, in his campaign for Congress in Michigan’s 7th
District.
